Writer's update #2 - What is to come in 2021

In the last couple weeks, I have been working in silence thinking about the direction I wanted to take this blog to, how to expand it and get more attention to it. I want to create an interesting source for my fellow nerds out there, where we can also discuss our favourite movies, series and books. 

I have been busy preparing a lot of posts in advance, as from 2021 onwards I will post every Saturday. Some posts might be more serious and some will be a little light hearted fun of the "What-if-type". Others will introduce you to little known sub genres and consist of character analysis. I will also review TV shows, movies and books. 

In addition to this, I will also post several original short stories. One is particular is very close to my heart. It is called "The Knight" and I wrote it for my mom as she was dying. She loved the story and after almost three years, I feel like it is about time, I shared it with the world. 

Finally I want to let you know, that I already half way through the final edit of my novel. I have to admit that I am having a hard time finishing the book. It has been accompanying me for a long time and has been a life line during some of the darkest times or my life. As many writers, painters and filmmakers will agree it is difficult to let go of something like this, as it has been a project, I have been working on for nine years. But now I am happy to introduce it to the world. I am looking forward to introduce to you those characters I have only shared with a few chosen beta readers so far but feel close to like to old friends. 

Also my head is bursting with ideas I want to include in the Calindratem's universe and I am eager to start the next episode of the story. For those unaware my novel is just the first in what I hope will be a series of nine books.

Character Analysis - Hayley Marshall-Kenner (The Originals & The Vampire Diaries)

Since some people have told me, that I always write these about characters that I like I have decided to change that and pick a character I don't like: Hayley Marshall-Kenner. Before getting into the character in details, let's clear something up: While I dislike the character, I find it is very well crafted and Phoebe Tonkin portrays her excellently. Science Fiction & Fantasy - Escaping Reality

When talking to people I often get the question: "Why do you write Science Fiction and Fantasy?" This is usually followed by a tirade that they don't like it, because it is so unrealistic. What they don't get: That is the point! With these two genres the fact is that the only limit to your writing is your own mind. While in reality we are limited by physics, biology or simply life. This became very evident to me when my mother, who loved those genres probably even more than I do, fell severly ill. At one point it became evident that there was nothing the doctors could do for her. My reaction was the same one as for everybody who is loosing a loved one: I tried to find a solution and went through the five stages of grief. 11 Errors in The Hunger Games (Books)

Don't get me wrong, I love "The Hunger Games" trilogy and believe the stories are great. This is however also the reason why all the errors upset me.  To be a good writer you don't need 'just' a good story but you also need an eye for detail and sometimes is means to painstakingly comb trough your own story to eliminate flaws, no matter if they involve grammar and syntax, characters acting ilogical, plot holes or continuity errors.  "The Hunger Games" trilogy  is full of them and because of these errors instead of being an incredible book it seems like a wasted oportunity.  Of course you can ask how a non published writer dares criticizing a bestselling author.
